The Youth and Sports Sub-Committee of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has visited three sub metropolitan areas in the Metropolis to sensitise the youth on the dangers in exposing themselves to the Coronavirus.
The move by the Sub-Committee is to complement the efforts of the Mayor, Osei Assibey Antwi, in the fight against the disease from all directions.
The Committee went round the Subin, Manhyia North and Manhyia South Sub Metro Councils, particularly, the Ashtown (Konadu Yiadom and Atipenhene) Parks and Duase Dote Park, and advised the youth to adhere to the COVID-19 protocols in containing the spread of the disease as the virus is easily transmitted in public gatherings.
The youth, who find themselves inactive following the restrictions, are fond of disregarding the presidential directives against public gatherings and playing football.
Shadrack Imoro, one of the footballers, said they had been inactive without football, and realising that the game has bounced back in other countries, appealed to the government to develop community parks to enhance and unearth talents in sports.
Convener Kwasi Kwarteng admonished the youth to engage in individual training instead of the group football game.
He said the committee’s task was to develop sports and the skills of the youth, and in due time they will outline their plans for the advantage of all groups and individuals in the youth bracket.
