The Akrofuom District Assembly in the Ashanti Region has provided furniture worth GH¢106,000 to schools in the district.
The furniture, procured with money from the District Assembly’s Common Fund (DACF), is made up of 150 mono and 450 dual-desks, as well as 37 teachers chairs and 37 tables.
The District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. Jonas Maurice Woode, said three newly built Junior High School (JHS) blocks at Ampunyase, Kramokrom and Yawusukrom were going to benefit from the furniture, while the rest will be given to other schools in the district.
He stated that this is the second presentation of furniture to schools in the district, having presented 1,000 dual desks last year.
Touching on the assembly’s preparedness towards the partial re-opening of Senior High Schools (SHSs) and JHSs in the district following the outbreak of COVID-19, Mr. Woode said the assembly had met officials of the Education Directorate and relevant stakeholders, and mapped out elaborate plans towards the smooth re-opening.
The District Director of Education, Mr. George Adu Abrokwa, receiving the furniture, expressed his appreciation to the assembly for the gesture.
He said the furniture had come at a time when pupils and students have to be spaced well in the classrooms in line with the Coronavirus (COVID-19) protocols.
Mr. Adu Abrokwa appealed for the provision of teachers’ bungalows, noting that teachers in remote areas of the district were faced with accommodation problems.
