The Ahafo Regional Police Command has cautioned the youth in the region to desist from causing violence in the ongoing voters registration exercise to avoid the wrath of the law.
The Regional Crime Officer, Chief Superintendent Augustine Anyara, in an interview with The Chronicle, said his outfit would not entertain or spare any person who tries to tamper with the smooth running of the voters’ registration exercise, which began on Monday.
According to him, the Regional Police Command, which is mandated to ensure that absolute peace is experienced at every registration centre in the region, have put measures in place to deal with persons who would try frustrate the exercise.
He revealed that the police had identified some flashpoints in the region, and that security in those areas would be strengthened to allow the Electoral Commission (EC) to undertake its mandatory exercise of registering voters.
He told the youth not to allow themselves to be influenced by politicians to create violence, because the police would arrest any culprits and forward them to court as the law demands.
He added that his institution would not entertain and accept an apology after the arrest, so all must take note.
The Regional Crime Officer said Ahafo is a region now, and that every government institution, just like the police, has personnel who are capable of handling issues.
He regretted that some of the youth always plan to cause mayhem in an election year in the region, to the extent of attacking others with sticks, axes, machetes among others.
This time round, he said, the police would deal ruthlessly with the trouble makers.
