Mr. Osei Assibey Antwi, Metro Chief executive of Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), together with Mr. David Oppong, the Kumasi Metro Director of education yesterday toured a number of Junior High Schools in the Metropolis as the students returned to school.
The mayor explained that it was incumbent on his outfit to ensure that school authorities and the students were using the Personal Protective Equipment distributed to them for the intended purposes and adhering to the COVID19 protocols.
He commended the President, Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo and the Minister for Education for the provision of PPEs and advised the students to ensure that they always adhere to the basic protocols in order not to contract or spread the virus.
The mayor cautioned the students that the best way to avoid the spread is to observe and take all the precautionary measures seriously since the virus spreads from one person to another.
He entreated them to be ambassadors wherever they find themselves to educate their siblings and friends and should not allow anyone without a facemask to talk to them in order not to contract the virus.
He advised the students to take their studies seriously, reminding them that their responsibility is to study hard and pass their examination.
Mrs. Anastasia Bediako, Headmistress of Opoku Ware Basic School, commended the government and Mayor for putting measures in place to protect the students and mitigate the effects of the coronavirus.
She also acknowledged receipt of all PPEs required for use by the school and students to ensure that the students are protected.
