The people of Mampamhwe, a predominantly farming community in the Obuasi East District of the Ashanti Region, are the proud beneficiaries of a modern Community-Based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound to take care of their health needs, as well as those in the surrounding villages.
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Obuasi East Constituency, Dr. Patrick Boakye Yiadom, noted that the entire block of the facility was built by the former administration, while he provided the equipment and other facilities from his share of the MPs Health Insurance Fund, at a cost of GH¢30,000.
He pledged to continue to support the facility by replacing any equipment that will go faulty, to ensure that the centre operates at its optimum.
The Obuasi East District Chief Executive (DCE), Madam Faustina Amissah, noted that with the provision of the CHPS compound, pregnant women and all sick persons will no more have to travel to the government hospital at Obuasi to seek medical attention, and expressed her appreciation to all those who helped bring the centre into being.
She called for tolerance from the health professionals who will be working at the centre to ensure a peaceful co-existence between the staff and the community.
The District Director of Health, Madam Delphine Gborgblorvor, noted that the CHPS compound becomes the first government health facility in the Obuasi East District, and expressed happiness that the type of equipment provided is unique and even qualifies the facility to become a health centre.
The Health Director expressed her gratitude to the MP for providing funding to make the CHPS compound functional.
