An Accra Circuit has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of one Kwaku Alex Tetteh for selling and keeping the proceeds of a Toyota V8 4X4 vehicle valued US$50,000 that belongs to Commissioner of Police (COP) Samuel Monney.
Tetteh (accused), who is resident at Ofankor in the Greater Accra Region, was, on January 2017, given a Toyota V8 4X4 belonging to Samuel Monney, Director General of the Police Service in charge of Technical, to be given back to one Awudu, who reportedly sold the vehicle to the senior police officer.
Complainant Monney, according to the facts of the case read in court, got to know the seller of the vehicle through the accused person, who is currently at large.
The senior police officer requested that the vehicle be returned to the seller because he had lost interest in purchasing it.
The accused obliged to take the vehicle back to the seller, but instead of collecting the money, he rather exchanged it with another vehicle without the knowledge and approval of Mr Monney.
He (accused) then proceeded to sell the new car and keep the proceeds.
The senior police officer, upon persistent demands for his money from the accused – Alex Tetteh, the latter issued him with a Fidelity Bank cheque No. 020033, with a face value of GH¢189,200, to be drawn on May 31, 2018.
The cheque was, however, dishonoured when presented at the bank, because there was no money in the account of the accused, The Chronicle reporter heard in court.
When the attention of the accused was drawn to the fact that the cheque had bounced, he issued another one, this time, drawn on Universal Merchant Bank, with cheque number 362421 and dated June 6, 2018 with a face value of $US43,000.
This cheque also bounced upon presentation, compelling the complainant to once again inform the accused, but he did nothing about it.
The complainant, Samuel Monney, therefore, decided to report the case to the police, and the accused was arrested.
During interrogation, the accused admitted the offence and was subsequently charged and brought before the court.
