The Stool Secretary to the Ada Paramountcy, Numo Jonathan Dorkutso, has urged two clans fighting over a stool at the Hwakpo Division to remain calm.
Hwakpo is one of the ten divisions under the Ada Paramountcy, and to Numo Dorkutso, the paramountcy is yet to recognise a substantive chief for the division.
“This is due to divided interest of the Akwerh and Pupulampu families of the Adibeawe Clan. The two are laying claim to the stool, the Ada Paramountcy Stool Secretary told a section of the press at Big Ada in the Ada East District.
There has been heightened tension at Hwakpo for months now, due to a chieftaincy dispute, and Numo Dorkutso explained that to end the instability in the area, the Ada Paramount Chief is constituting a committee of enquiry to ensure that both parties come to a consensus for one chief.
He, therefore, said he could not understand why one faction would be reluctant to cooperate with the road map to resolving the dispute.
Numo Dorkutso’s call for calm at Hwakpo follows the ‘anger’ of the Pupulampus, who are calling the bluff of the yet to be constituted committee to be set up by the Ada Paramountcy to bring an end to the area’s chieftaincy litigation.
They said the committee would not favour them, alleging that the paramountcy is in bed with the Akwerhs.
They did not spare the Stool Secretary, Numo Jonathan Dorkutso, who they accused of fueling tension in the Ada Traditional Area to his benefit.
“Nene Ada [The Paramount Chief] has a Coronavirus in his palace which he must deal with,” Jones David Okonko, Divisional Stool Head of the Pupulampus, told a section of the media about what he described as the bad behaviour of the Stool Secretary.
However, Numo Jonathan Dorkutso maintained he has always fought for the interest of the Ada Traditional Area, saying: “We have ten divisions, and Hwakpo is just one of them. Are the others fighting? The allegation against me is not true.”
He noted that his stance that there is no chief at Hwakpo is legitimate, “because, like the Puplampus, the Akwerhs, also from Hwakpo, have presented a notice to the paramountcy. And the most expedient thing the paramountcy can do is to probe the notices for a better decision to be taken. Documents of legitimacy, etc., must be shown by the two, and that will determine this matter.”
The Akwerhs, who have remained calm and expressed readiness to appear before the committee, dared the Pupulampus to do same to bring finality to the matter.
Contained in a release, the Akwerhs said they are the legitimate owners of Hwakpo lands as an inheritance from their great grandmother who served as a trokosi and was given the land for her service.
The Akwerhs, further, asked the Pupulampus to show proof of ever installing a legitimate chief in Hwakpo, as they the Akwerhs are showing for Nene Nyumuwayo II, who ruled Hwakpo from 1949 to 1985 when he passed away.
Nene Osusey Akwerh II, Chief of Foahnguah Totimekope, one of the Divisional Chiefs, described the posture of the Puplampus as unfortunate and detrimental to the healing process of the pending chieftaincy litigation.
