Confronted with the Coronavirus (COVID -19) pandemic since he was sworn into office as Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Prestea Hunni-Valley Assembly a week ago, Dr. Isaac Dasmani has taken the fight to the spike in positive cases in his Municipality.
After receiving his first donation of Physical Protective Equipment (PPE) from Gold Fields Damang Mine since assuming office as MCE, he said the Prestea Hunni-Valley Assembly was going to launch a COVID-19 Fund next week Tuesday.
The fund, a personal initiative of the MCE, would lobby for funds from stakeholders, mining companies, banks and other companies, both public and private, operating in Prestea Hunni-Valley to help in the fight against the COVID-19.
Prestea Hunni-Valley has seen a spike of positive COVID-19 cases from 1 to 36.
The fund would be managed by traditional leaders, the clergy, and representatives from the Muslim religion, media, Assembly representatives and others.
Throwing more light on the fund, MCE Dr. Dasmani said he had put up a proposal and held meetings with the Assembly on the need to launch a COVID-19 fund.
“The cases are going up, and we need to make interventions and not only rely on central government.
“So the COVID-19 fund initiative was adopted, and we have written to institutions and companies on our soil to come up and help in the fight.”
He gave the assurance that there was going to be transparency in the management of the fund. “We are going to appeal to them, corporate bodies, individuals, banks; myself and [the] Coordinating Director are going to appeal to them to make sure that we get something from it.”
Touching on the safety protocols, MCE Dasmani said the safety protocols were working in the Municipality, considering that as a safety measure, the Assembly had partially closed down two markets as a means of ensuring the safety of the people in the area.
The Assembly has also distributed about 1,000 face masks. Dr. Dasmani, however, admitted: “I have a lot of ideas, but it seems the COVID is over shadowing everything, but notwithstanding, we will make sure we implement [the] agenda we have for the Municipality.”
Identifying traditional leaders as stakeholders in development, the Prestea Hunni-Valley said he was not going to leave them out in his development agenda, knowing the role they play.
