The police in the Ashanti Region have arrested 11 people suspected to be connected to the shooting incident at Manso Dadease in the Amansie South District which led to the death of three people and another wounded last Monday.
All the 11 suspects are currently in the grips of the Regional Police Command pending further screening and thorough investigations.
The Regional Crime Officer, ACP Mr. Felix Kwasi Cosmos, said: “So far, we have picked up about 11 suspects and we are going to screen them, and then we will take it from there.”
ACP Cosmos said the police alerted their informants as soon as the incident happened, and acted quickly to arrest the 11 people believed to be linked to the robbery, based on intelligence received.
He said the police have managed the crime scene and interviewed possible witnesses, especially those who might be of help to investigations.
The farming community of Manso Dadease was thrown into shock and wailing last Monday, when gunmen suspected to be armed robbers shot and killed Kwaku Danso, 60, and a 25 year-old man, only identified as Osofo.
Mr. Samuel Osei, a personal driver of the Amansie South District Chief Executive, also suffered gunshot wounds after the suspected robbers fired into a cross-country vehicle he was driving.
The Amansie enclave of the region has become notorious of late for armed robbery attacks, obviously targeted at gold dealers operating in the area and its environs.
Earlier reports suggested that some gunmen also attacked a gold dealer shop in the area and bolted with unspecified quantities of gold and huge sums of money, while there was also another incident where six armed men allegedly attacked occupants of a Toyota Highlander, which was timely foiled by a police officer who was escorting a bullion van.
