The Ashanti Regional Director of Health Services, Dr. Emmanuel Tenkorang, says more females are contracting the Coronavirus in the Ashanti Region than their male counterparts.
He attributes the development to the fact that women operate mainly in the markets where they come into contact with a lot of people.
Speaking at a media briefing in Kumasi yesterday, he said currently, females constitute 51% of the total number of confirmed cases, with the ages of between 29 and 39 being the majority.
According to him, the total confirmed cases in the Ashanti Region, as at May 20, 2020, is 886 with seven deaths. He further revealed that 25 out of the 43 districts and municipalities in the region have recorded cases of the Covid-19.
He, however, said new infections had reduced in the region as a whole, and in the Obuasi Municipality and Obuasi East District in particular.
According to the Medical Director, 139 of the latest suspected cases tested negative after a repeated test.
Fifteen victims are currently on admission, whilst 75 are in isolation centres.
He said the number of active contacts being followed is 54, with 49,988 samples being taken from individuals.
Also routine surveillance stands at 1,335, community screening 42,586, travellers 1,387, and contacts of confirmed cases 4,352.
