As part of measures to prevent the further spread of Coronavirus in the Bono East Region, the Techiman National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) Secretariat, in collaboration with the Techiman Municipal Health Directorate, Environmental Health and Security agencies have urged the residents to adopt the use of facemasks at all cost.
The Bono region has still not recorded any case of the novel Covid-19 and the authorities are bent on keeping the clean record.
Check points have been mounted at all entery points into Techiman municipality to enforce that people wear facemasks before entering the area.
Addressing journalists, the Techiman Municipal Director for the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Mr Eric Asiedu, said it is now mandatory for the general public to wear a facemask outside the privacy of their homes.
“We won’t allow persons without nose masks to enter Techiman Municipality,” he said.
“This is the time to partner with various groups to make sure all safety protocols are adhered to, hence the reason for implementing ‘no facemask, no entry’ into Techiman, the commercial hub of the country,” he added.
Mr Aseidu said that the Techiman Municipal Assembly, through the MCE, John Kofi Donyina, has distributed over 10,000 facemasks to business men and women, as well as drivers, to protect themselves.
“To the people in the Bono East region, it is now mandatory to wear facemasks as directed by President Akufo Addo, which should be observed by all Ghanaians. As a result, from today, no facemask no entry into Techiman”, Mr Eric Asiedu stressed.
Meanwhile, the Bono East Immigration Regional Commander, Chief Supt Abrokwa Annor has strongly warned landlords and individuals harbouring illegal migrants to desist from their act or face the law.
Mr. Abrokwa Annor said the command has identified all hideouts for illegal migrants and will soon embark on a swoop.
He said any one planning to enter into the Bono East region illegally should know that he will be picked up and dealt with accordingly.
Chief Supt. Abrokwa Annor further appealed to Ghanaians with intentions of seeking greener pastures with illegal documents to change their mindsets.
He said travelling through the desert to Libya around these difficult times would be more dangerous to humanity. According to him, countries around the globe have intensified their boundary measures, and anybody picked as illegal migrant would regret it.
