Intelligence that has been picked up by The Chronicle indicates that some of the executive members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have been sending text messages to the suspended former Central Regional Chairman of the Party, Bernard Allotey Jacobs, pleading with him to ignore the punishment that has been meted out to him.
According to our reliable sources, whilst some of these executives claim they were not consulted and, therefore, unaware of the suspension letter that was served on him (Allotey), others also claim they were forced to issue the suspension statement based on pressure that was brought to bear on them as executives.
The Chronicle understands efforts are being made by leadership to resolve the impasse, after which a statement would be issued to inform the followers of the party about the settlement.
It is, however, not known whether Mr Allotey Jacobs, a former board member of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) would succumb to the pressure to forgive and forget about what has happened.
This reporter was nevertheless told that apart from the executive members, some of the bigwigs behind the party are also talking to him so that the issue is not blown out of proportion and that the loquacious former party leader may succumb to pressure to have the misunderstanding resolved.
The NDC recently issued a highfalutin statement to announce its withdrawal from Peace FM’s ‘Kokrokoo’ morning show, claiming Mr Allotey Jacobs no longer speaks for the party, but the radio station has refused to withdraw him from the show, despite repeated demands.
According to the NDC official statement, the radio station empanels two representatives from NDC and one from NPP on its Wednesday programme.
The trend is reversed on Fridays where NPP has two representatives as against NDC’s one rep. Allotey Jacobs was appearing on the show on Wednesdays to represent NDC.
But the opposition party insists its former central regional chairman, who calls himself ‘Educated Fishermen’ no longer speaks for them and that he must not be considered as one of the representatives of the party on the show.
A few hours after NDC had withdrawn from the radio station, the party issued another statement to announce the suspension of Mr Bernard Allotey Jacobs.
