Mr. Kwame Agyeman-Budu, the Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), has told a meeting of journalists in Kumasi that management has decided to invest a total of Gh¢44.7 million in the Ashanti Region, to re-enforce the network for reliable and sustainable power supply.
This will involve construction of a primary substation at Agogo to link up Konongo and Ejisu and upgrade of the network to ensure continuous power supply and elimination of power outages. According to him, transformers, cables have to be replaced – a goal the company is pursuing.
He, however, expressed concern over illegal connections in the region, which according to him, is hindering their efforts to provide reliable power and pleaded with the public to stop the act – because illegal connections overload and affect performances of the transformers.
Ing David Boasi Asamoah, Director of Ashanti Regional Strategic Business Unit (SBU), explained that his outfit is working tirelessly to ensure the sustainability of power supply in the region. He told the journalists that they, as a company, are not happy with power outages that occasionally hit the region hence measures being put in place to address the issue.
