The c has embarked on an education programme for traditional rulers in the area on the Coronavirus (COVID-19) which would enable them to become abreast of the seriousness of the deadly disease, and support the Assembly to promote public education on the pandemic in the District.
The North Dayi District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. Edmond Kujoh Attah, who made this known to the media at Anfoega, the district capital, explained that the Assembly had targeted the chiefs in the area in order for them to also provide relevant education to their subjects on COVID-19.
Mr. Kujoh Attah said chiefs play very important roles in society, therefore, the respect being accorded them would serve as an effective medium for carrying information on the virus to the people, who would readily embrace such messages coming from leaders in their respective communities.
The DCE, who heads the District Public Health Emergency Response Management Team, disclosed that as part of a structured comprehensive education on COVID-19, assembly members in the district were encouraged to work closely with the traditional rulers by reporting people who visit the community, whether citizens or not, to the chiefs who would ensure that such persons observed the mandatory isolation period of two weeks.
He assured them that the assembly and central government would continue to play their roles to protect the lives of people of North Dayi, and Ghanaians in general, from contracting COVID-19.
He further advised that the people ought to complement the government’s efforts by abiding by the rules and regulations put in place to prevent people from contracting the disease.
Mr. Kujoh Attah pointed out that to obey and live would be better option than disobeying such rules and die, adding that it should not be difficult for people to wash their hands regularly under running water, use sanitisers more frequently and observe social distancing as precautionary measures so as not to be infected with the Coronavirus.
He said the Assembly had taken delivery of Veronica buckets, tissue papers, sanitisers and buckets among others from the Local Government Ministry, which had been placed at vantage places in the various communities to ensure that people would wash their hands and use sanitisers even when outside their homes.
The DCE continued that the District Health Directorate had also organised various sensitisation workshops for health workers to enable them work more effectively and also to protect themselves during this difficult time, and commended the people in the District for their cooperation with the Assembly during this difficult period.
