The Ketu South Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Elliot Edem Agbenorwu, has called on the youth of the area to complement the efforts being made by the government to control the coronavirus by respecting the rules and regulations meant to protect people from contracting the deadly disease.
He regretted that after the government had closed all land borders of the country including that of the Aflao, motorbike riders popularly called ‘okada’ were illegally carrying people through the beach to the Republic of Togo.
The Ketu South MCE who made this known to the media after he led a team to spray markets and other public places in the municipality said the strategy adopted by the okada riders was to outwit the intelligence of security at the Aflao border. He hinted that the Municipal Security Council has now detailed security personnel along the beach to prevent the operations of the okada riders.
According to Mr. Agbenorwu, when these ‘okada’ riders realised that their cover had been blown, they resorted to using unapproved routes from Aflao to Togo. This development, he said, has compelled his outfit to ban operations of okada in the Ketu South Municipality.
The Ketu South MCE was surprised that the youth engaged in the illegal business did not realise the dangers involved especially in this trying moments where the country is doing everything possible to protect the lives of her citizens. According to him, some of the recalcitrant ones have had to run away leaving their bikes behind when they discovered that the route they are trying to use was already being manned by national security operatives.
Mr Agbenorwu therefore appealed to the people to demonstrate high level of patriotism especially during these difficult times by cooperating with security personnel who are prepared to protect their interest and not to harm them.
The Ketu South MCE however, commended the people for cooperating with the Assembly to spray the Aflao Border, Aflao Market and Lorry Park, Agbozume Market, Wuduaba Market, Denu Market, Gakli Market and police cells to disinfect them.
