The Chronicle has gathered that one resident of Ashaiman has been shot dead today, Sunday, by an armed military personnel.
Eric, popularly known in Ashaiman as No Yawa, the deceased, according to scanty reports by eyewitnesses at the Ashaiman Central Market, allegedly struggled to disarm the military personnel who asked the former to go home if he had no business in the area.
Eric, according to the reports The Chronicle gathered, refused to obey the directive of the personnel who had been mandated by the law to ensure that residents stayed at home to slow or stop the spread of the Coronavirus during this fortnight of partial lockdown.
“He (Eric) exchanged words with the armed military personnel who drew nearer to the former. Before we knew it, No Yawa was struggling with the soldier and immediately, we heard ‘kpoo’,” two eyewitnesses narrated.
The bullet drove into the belly of Eric, the eyewitnesses claimed.
They said one person who was close to the struggle when the gun went off sustained some injuries on the legs and arms.
The Chronicle called Chief Superintendent Samuel Amissah, Ashaiman Divisional Commander, on the telephone for confirmation but he said: “I am yet to receive a report on what you have just told me. I have heard it too but I can’t confirm the incident now until my office receives the report.”
