The Police Administration has requested for additional budget to fund Operation Covid-19 to enforce the partial lockdown in Accra, Tema, Kasoa and Kumasi.
The Director General of Police Welfare, Commissioner of Police (COP) Maame Yaa Tiwa Addo-Danquah, disclosed this to The Chronicle in a telephone conversation on Sunday.
According to COP Tiwa Addo-Danquah, the budget for personnel deployed on duty last week was exceeded by 340 percent as the personnel moved from the initial 600 to 2,640 men and women.
The shoot in the personnel after the budget was approved became imperative when last minute assessment emerged that the operational teams alone cannot handle the task compelling the administration to include personnel from other units.
COP Tiwa Addo-Danquah continued that this week, police deployment stands at 5,000 strong force with Ashanti accounting for 1,200 and Central Region (Kasoa) beefing up with 1,160 personnel to ensure the success of the operation.
