From Richard Owusu-Akyaw, Kumasi
The Ashanti Regional police command has arrested four suspected criminals in the Kumasi metropolis, as part of efforts to reduce crime to the barest minimum, the deputy Ashanti regional police commander ASP Ampofo Duku has disclosed.
He explained that the suspects, Patrick Ndeago, Hamza Isaah, Arhmed Dauda, alias ‘Okrate’, and Emmanuel Osei-Badu Abdulai, aka Tough Shatta, 21, had committed separate robberies.
According to him, on March 10, 2017, the complainant, Samuel Nsiah, a taxi driver, who lives at Yenyawoso near Krofrom in Kumasi, was driving a Toyota Corolla taxi cab with registration number: AS680-17, valued at GHc30,000.
At about 1700 hrs, a man asked to be taken to Ahodwo, Kumasi. On reaching the KMA junction, the complainant felt dizzy and could not see anything again.
The deputy Ashanti regional police commander continued that he only regained consciousness and found himself on a bench at Ahodwo, with his car nowhere to be found.
He said: “On 3rd May, 2017, he spotted the car being driven by a witness in the case and the said Toyota car had a new registration nnumber: GW 9027-17.
When witness was arrested, he told the police that he bought the car from a suspect in Accra. This, however, saw the police moving to Accra and luring the accused person, who came with a Toyota Matrix, ready to sell, only to be arrested by the police, while the Matrix was impounded.
According to ACP Ampofo Duku, he was brought to Kumasi and another complainant, Emmanuel Osei Tutu, claimed ownership of the said vehicle and that it was robbed from him at Kumasi, for which he had already lodged a complaint with the police.
Investigation also revealed that the chassis number of the Toyota Corolla had been altered, while the documents covering it were forged, but the Matrix had its chassis number unchanged.
The police official noted that the suspect, Patrick Ndeago, mentioned one Yaw Eric and Edward as his accomplices, but could not assist the police to effect their arrest, saying he does not know their place of residence.
He announced that suspect would be charged with the offence of robbery, while efforts are underway to get his accomplices arrested.
In a separate briefing, Mr. Duku explained that a suspect, Ahmed Dauda, alias ‘Okrate’, and Emmanuel Osei-Badu Abdulai, aka Tough Shatta, 21, both unemployed and residents of Aburaso and Kwadaso respectively, are alleged to have robbed complainant, Seth Kwaku
Frimpong, a resident of Womaase, near Agric Nzema.
Police Chief Duku told the media that, on 5th May, 2017, at 04:30am, first suspect was arrested for stealing and when he was searched by the police, a Nokia 216 mobile phone was found on him.
According to him, some contact numbers on the phone’s call log were called, with one of the recipients answering that his brother, Seth Kwaku Frimpong, the complainant, was robbed of the said mobile phone and his money worth GHc180 at Agric Nzema.
The complainant was informed and he rushed to the Afaseabon police station, where he identified the suspect as one of the culprits who attacked and robbed him of his handset and money.
He revealed that, first suspect led the police to arrest his accomplice at his hideout at Kwadaso. The case is still under investigation and will go before court on completion of the investigation.
Meanwhile, the Manhyia divisional commander, Chief Supt Kwaku Buah also reported that on Thursday, May 11th, 2017, at about 03:00 pm his outfit arrested suspect Hamza Isaah, a 19-year-old unemployed man at Suame Roundabout, Kumasi, in connection with a robbery incident that happened earlier on the same day at dawn, around 02:30 am.
Police investigation revealed that on the said date, the suspect invaded the room of Baba Ali, a 26 year-old mechanic at Sawaba, Kumasi, with a locally manufactured pistol, with one round of ammunition, and at gunpoint robbed his victim of a Samsung Smartphone, the ignition to his
motorbike and money worth GHc300 cash.
In the afternoon, the complainant spotted the suspect at Suame Roundabout and Baba Ali raised an alarm, which led to his arrest.
A search on Isaah produced a locally manufactured pistol, one round of bullet and an ignition to a motorbike, which are all in police custody.
“If anyone has any case, we have some suspects here, so get in touch with the police and you can help us delve deeper and arrest those involved. I am giving the assurance that whatever information is relayed to the police would be treated confidentially”.
