The President-Elect, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has called on chiefs in the Greater Accra Region to criticize him if he goes wrong to ensure the success of his government.
Addressing the Regional House of Chiefs at Dodowa yesterday, Nana Addo said his doors would always be open for suggestions and ideas from the Chiefs, for the development of the country. The President Elect expressed his profound gratitude to the Chiefs for their unflinching support towards his success.
Nana Addo indicated that the NPP had become popular in the Greater Accra region following the 52% popular votes it obtained in the region.
He said prior to the elections, NPP had 14 seats but the figure has now moved to 21. Nana further told the Chiefs that he still remembered all his promises, including the construction of fishing habour at James Town and Teshie.
The visit, Nana Addo indicated, was necessary to acknowledge the Chiefs and people of the region for giving him the permission to campaign in the region, when he came to them during the campaign season.
He extended his appreciation to the people of Greater Accra region for accepting his message of change and going all out to vote massively for him and the party.
Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo, wife of the President-Elect, also thanked the chiefs for voting for her husband.
She assured the Chiefs that she would fight for the region as a Ga woman and would use her position to let the voice of the region be heard.
Reechoing her sincerest gratitude to the people, she stated that she was happy the region did not disgrace its own daughter, promising to be always there for the people.
On the other hand, the President of the Osu Traditional Council, Nii Okwei Kinka Dowuona VI, on behalf of the people of Greater Accra, congratulated Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for winning the just ended polls.
He noted that as traditional leaders they are not supposed to be political but swiftly added that whatever help a government would need from them, as Chiefs, they would gladly and openly offer them.
Nii Okwei Kinka Dowuona VI commended Nana Addo for showing maximum respect to the Chiefs by paying a visit to thank them.
The Chief continued that the country needed peace to prevail in the general elections and by the grace of God the country had peaceful polls.
Commenting on the post-elections violence, the chief called on those perpetrating the violent acts to look at the character of Nana Addo and desist from such behavior.
He said Nana Addo is law abiding and that was why he did not rush to go to the Flagstaff House after winning the elections, but rather is waiting for the stipulated time as stated by the constitution.
