He told Neat FM's Adakabre Frimpong Manso that he [Boakye Gyan] had advised the former President [Mahama] not to pay attention to Mr Rawlings and his 'insults'.
He said Rawlings is very envious of John Mahama whose record cannot be compared to that of Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah.
"He father was a minister in Kwame Nkrumah's government...Mahama learnt his politics from a dining hall table when he [Rawlings] was playing 'gutter to gutter' football at Adabraka," Boakye Gyan stated.
"He has this complex about anybody who is good around him," he added.
Major Boakye Gyan stated that Rawlings' hero has always been Major General Emmanuel Kwasi Kotoka and before he [Kotoka] overthrew Kwame Nkrumah, Rawlings knew about it.
"What has John Dramani Mahama done to him [Rawlings] that he is always on him?" he quizzed.
Major Boakye Gyan expressed his disappointment in the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), who now sees Rawlings as their 'hero'.
"We know Rawlings for a long time but I am sorry for the NPP who have drawn closer to him as their 'hero'...Since 1979; 40-years ago I have not heeded to whatever that he says...we have never met," he stressed.
