The skipper of the side, Shafiu Mumuni, told the Daily Graphic exclusively from the team’s base in Senegal that he and his teammates were poised to avenge the 0-1 defeat they suffered at the hands of the Stallions a fortnight ago in a CHAN qualifier in Kumasi.
"It’s payback time against Burkina Faso today; they came to Kumasi and defeated us so we cannot sit idle to be beaten twice within two weeks by the same opponent. We are sure of beating them to redeem our image," Mumuni assured.
Coach Maxwell Konadu's lads defeated The Gambia 1-0, courtesy a strike by Hearts of Oak forward, Joseph Esso, at the round of 16 stage last Tuesday to book a date with Ghana's northern neighbours.
On the other hand, Burkina Faso needed penalties to progress after beating Mauritania 4-3.
Mumuni noted that because of their recent meeting, the Black Stars B team have a fair knowledge of their Burkinabe counterparts and so were working hard to face them tactically.
"We have an idea about their team because of the match we played last two weeks. We are preparing to match their style of play and hope to beat them," he said.
The Ashgold marksman opined that in spite of Ghana’s ambition to retain the trophy, the local Black Stars’ would approach the tournament on a match after match basis.
"Yes, our ambition is to retain the title, but our minds are currently set on today’s match. We want to approach this tournament one match after another," Mumuni stated. Read Full Story
