In the build up to the AFCON, Kofi Amoah assured Ghanaians that a clause enshrined in the coach’s new contract empowered the NC to fire him should the team fall short of the primary target.
"Per the contract, if Kwesi Appiah doesn't win the AFCON 2019 he is gone. This is stated in his contract. The president of Ghana is ready to end the 37 years of trophy drought. I believe Coach Kwasi Appiah can win the AFCON with our prayers and support," Kofi Amoah said on Adom TV.
However, nearly two weeks after Ghana’s painful round of 16 exit from the tournament, Ghanaians are yet to hear a word from the government and Normalization Committee about the future of Kwesi Appiah.
Speaking on Adom TV’s Fire for Fire show, Songo and Lil Win reminded Kofi Amoah of his words as they demanded the head of Kwesi Appiah.
“I can’t think far about the Black Stars. We have to fire them back to back from players to coaches. Watching the Black Stars at AFCON made me weep. People have invested their emotions in the Black Stars and they keep disappointing them. It looks like the players don’t respect the coach”, Lil Win lamented.
Songo who has been consistent with his criticism of the Black Stars coach observed that the team played without a tactical plan in the AFCON.
“The team did not have a coach in Egypt. If they had a coach, we would have seen it. Kofi Amoah made a promise to Ghanaians so he should honour it. We can’t continue with Kwesi Appiah” he said.
Meanwhile Sports Minister Isaac Asiamah who went against the recommendations of the Dzamefe Commission to airlift over 100 supporters to Egypt has been summoned by Parliament to provide account of the botched presidential project.
The Sports Minister is alleged to have budgeted a whopping 15 million dollars for the tournament.
Despite Ghana’s inability to win the tournament, the players came home with 30, 000 dollars each as qualification bonus and a staggering 80, 000 as appearance fee.
