Speaking on Saturday, December 29, at the 2018 Youth Impact at Mafi Wudrolo, in the Central Tongu in the Volta Region, Mr. Sosu asked the youth to change their minds in order to change their future.
The summit was on the theme: “Inspiring and Empowering the Youth to champion Positive Change, Social Accountability and Sustainable development.”
To be an agent of Positive Change, you must first recognise that you are part of a whole community which requires your contribution to change, he stressed.
"Your father maybe poor. Your mother may be poor but you are not poor," Sosu added.
Sosu charged the youth to rise up to redefine their own future and the future of Ghana. He says "though you may be coming from a deprived community you have the power to change your destiny and future."
Dr. Henry Xorsenyo Kpeli, of the International Health and Development Network Mission Hospital, spoke about the importance of education, skills acquisition and shaping the future.
He encouraged that every person acquires education and training which he said must not necessarily be formal. “Even if you want to be a carpenter, a mason or any other artisan, you will require education,” he stressed.
The Youth Impact Summit was organised by Julius Karl D. Fievi, the Assembly member of the Mafi Zongo Electoral Area in partnership with Youth For Human Rights Africa (YoHRA), with support from GADI Ghana, Treasure of Life Foundation, Dela Radio and Kuul 103.5 FM.
Speaking on the importance of Information Technology and taking advantage of Facebook, WhatsApp and other social media in promoting sustainable development goals, a Digital Marketer, Cherubim Mawuli Amenyedor, touched the need for the youth to exploit their talents and addiction to social media for economic opportunities.
He said technology has one primary goal and that is to make life easy. According to him Facebook and WhatsApp platforms make communications easier and hence the youth can take advantage to develop and market their ideas and businesses through those platforms than using them for needless social vices.
Another speaker, Samuel Gariba, Programs Director, YWB, spoke on voluntarism and the need for the youth to volunteer. He said through voluntarism, the youth would build a wide network that would propel their development.
He said, voluntarism is also a way of giving back to society. It is one of the ways to impact our society, he added and called on the youth not only to be more entrepreneurial but also to develop a high spirit of voluntarism.
Mr. Yao Amekor, a businessman and an entrepreneur, spoke about raising capital for start ups. He advised that despite the financial challenges in Ghana the youth can join small savings groups where they can attract micro loans to start their businesses.
He encouraged the youth to network with people who are in some entrepreneurship to gain relevant skills for the management of the capital they raise.
Mr. Nicholas Amoo, a banker with GT Bank, Madina, also spoke about the culture of savings among the youth for sustainable development. He said that the only way to create wealth is to save. Read Full Story
