Since the Atomic gas explosion last year, the NPA has stepped up its public education on responsibile use of petroleum products, especially gas, and has visited several eateries across the country, where operators and customers have beeb schooled on how to operate cylinders.
Speaking to journalists in the Eastern Region, Mr Tampuli, who inspected gas facilities of Eastern Premier Hotel and other restaurants and hotels, said the NPA is committed to working with stakeholders in the downstream industry to raise operational standards. He therefore appealed to the journalists to use their medium to educate the public about the dangers of misusing gas products.
“The public has a high resistance to any gas explosion in the country,“ he said.
On recent fuel price increase and claims the prices are deliberately increased by the NPA, Mr Tampuli said the Oil Marketing Companies – not the NPA – set the prices, though he said they, the regulator, make sure the OMCs don’t set the prices unreasonably. However, he said the next pricing window will bring some relief to consumers.
Mr. Tampuli renewed the committed of government to implement policies that will ease the burden from the population.
Mr. Tampuli later conferred ambassadorial role on the journalists, and appealed to them to help propagate information about its safety campaign. Read Full Story
