According to him, the NDC does not improve on policies by other governments but rather embarks on moves to destroy good policies that seek to improve on the lives of Ghanaians.
“I’m alarmed by this concept of review because anytime our political opponents talk about reviewing our policies it has been really a synonym for collapsing the policies,” Mr Akufo-Addo told a cross section of Ghanaians on Friday, 28 September 2018 at the Ghana Embassy in Washington DC, US.
He was responding to comments by Mr Mahama who had said previously that he would better-run the Akufo-Addo government's Free SHS policy if he recaptures power in the 2020 polls.
However, Mr Akufo-Addo maintained that the NDC promised a one-premium payment for the National Health Insurance Scheme (SHS) but it did not materialise during the past eight years of the NDC but “systematically the NHIS was degraded”.
“So I’m very worried that the people who opposed the (Free SHS) policy, if they come to power, they are [rather] going to review it. I suspect reviewing means collapsing it,” he stressed.
He added that he was very confident that the people of Ghana will not allow the Free SHS programme to be collapsed by keeping Mr Mahama and the NDC in opposition.
