Known as Kofi Sarkodie-Mensah, the 37-year-old who made his professional debut in 2006, a year after he started training, has now surpassed Billy Gunn who until recently held it for 953 days.
The Kumasi-born wrestler who performs the SmackDown under the ring name, Kofi Kingston, and is also a member of The New Day stablemates, becomes the first Ghanaian to have achieved that feat.
Kingston has so far won 15 total championships and has, thus, toppled recent WWE Hall of Famer, Mr Fuji, who previously held the World Tag Team Title alongside Professor Tanaka and Mr. Saito for 932 days.
The Ghanaian can also boast as an eight-time Tag Team Champion, with five of those reigns coming alongside stars such as Big E and Xavier Woods.
The dreadlocked Dynamo also had his other encounters with the championships against R-Truth, CM Punk and Evan Bourne. The wrestler also holds the record for longest Tag Team Title reign of all time at 483 days.
Kingston who graduated from the Boston college is expected to defend his title on Saturday, October 6, at the WWE Super Show-Down. Read Full Story
