McCarthy joined Dreams FC during the second round of the 2015/2016 season and instantly became the first-choice goaltender moving to Israeli side Hapoel Afula the following season on loan after Dreams FC were demoted to the second tier competition in Ghana.
However, despite an impressive stint in Israel, McCarthy played only one game for Dawu-based Dreams FC in the first round of the 2017/2018 Ghana Premier League and has, therefore, decided to seek for new opportunities elsewhere.
"I can confirm to you that I am no more at Dreams FC, we had to terminate my contract through mutual agreement." 29-year-old McCarthy told Graphic Sports Online.
"I think that [terminating his contract] was the best option for now because I want to play. I want to thank the club because they gave me a major European exposure when they sent me on loan to Israel."
The former Black Stars goalkeeper hinted that he is open to a move to any club that needs his services whether home or abroad as he is now a free agent.
"I am a free player and any club which comes whether home or abroad if the offer is good for me, I will join them."
McCarthy, who previously played for Fetteh Feyenoord (now WAFA) and Accra Hearts of Oak, made 20 appearances for Dreams FC and scoring one goal, which was a classic long-range shot against New Edubiase United at the Dawu park during the 2015/2016 Ghana Premier League season.
Once a very promising goalkeeper, he was part of Ghana’s third-choice goalkeeper at the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany but his progress has also been hampered by recurrent injuries. Read Full Story
