The versatile television host has turned down the highly prestigious nomination on the basis that he believes does not "deserve" to be in the same category as active Ghanaians sportmen.
Ampofo Ankrah has written to the organizers to humbly withdraw his name from the nominations since he feels it is not balanced considering the fact that he's neither an active athlete or retired sportsman.
Ampofo Ankrah has been nominated alongside Albert Frimpong (CEO Skate Soccer), Thomas Partey (Black Stars & Athletico Madrid), Isaac Dogboe (World Boxing Champion) and Akwasi Frimpong (Ghanaian Olympian).
In a brief letter to the organizers, Ampofo Ankrah who is also President of the Ghana Beach Soccer Association and CEO of Books and Boots stated that although he is in full support of the awards concept itself, he feels his nomination is clearly out of place.
The former BBC reporter believes he would be better placed to promote the achievements of the sportsmen who have excelled in the Calendar year.
Attached to this story is a copy of his letter to the organizers of the award.
