Speaking on Citi FM’s Citi TV’s news analysis programme The Big Issue Mr. Cudjoe said most of these aspirants want to use the opportunity to get personal connections for their purposes.
“Well I do not know if people are in the race to raise money for their personal circumstances, because I am beginning to think, that some people are beginning to raise money for other causes and also other want to be noticed so that they can do stuff,” he said. A total of 94 National Democratic Congress (NDC) Members of Parliament, out of the 106, endorsed former President John Dramani Mahama to lead the party in the 2020 elections.
According to the leader of the 94 MPs, Edwin Nii Lantey Vandapuye, John Mahama is the only candidate who can lead the party to victory in the next polls.
The NDC is expected to select its presidential candidate in September 2018.
Although some members of the party have already declared their intentions of contesting the position, John Dramani Mahama is yet to declare his interest.
About 5 members of the NDC have so far declared their intention to contest as flagbearers of the party ahead of the 2020 polls.
They include Dr. Ekow Spio Garbah, a former Trades and Industry Minister under the John Mahama government; Former Vice Chancellor of the University for Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Prof. Joshua Alabi, and Member of Parliament for Nadowli-Kaleo, Alban Bagbin.
The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Johnson Asiedu Nketia has also officially declared his intention to seek re-election at the party’s National Delegates Congress on December 7, 2018.
Mr. Asiedu Nketia, who is the current NDC General Secretary announced his intention at a press conference to outline the party’s programme for the election of a flagbearer for Election 2020.
