World Football governing body FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee banned Lamptey from taking part in any kind of football- related activity (administrative, sports or any other) at national and international level for life.
He was found guilty of breaching art. 69 par. 1 (unlawfully influencing match results) of the FIFA Disciplinary Code during the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying match involving South Africa and Senegal on 12 November 2016.
Lamptey awarded a controversial penalty to home side South Africa which enabled the win a solely contested game by 2-1 against Senegal.
The decision taken at the Peter Mokaba stadium in Polokwane that day by referee Lamptey puzzled all present including the South African media and fans present.
