Everton jump ahead of Schalke in race to sign defender Baba Rahman

Ghana defender Baba Rahman is one of the sort after wing backs in Europe with that position getting prominence each passing season.

GHANAsoccernet was the first to report that the player was back on the pitch and kicking a ball after a horrific knee injury that ruled him out of the second half of the season.

Schalke has shown interest all summer with the German side reported to have agreed terms with the player already.

But his agent Shasha Empacher has been speaking and hinting that Everton have moved ahead in the last 48 hours as Ronny Koeman has identified the defender as a key part of his team this season.

"Baba is not in any emergency situation. Schalke is a topic, but he still has a four-year contract with Chelsea."

Rahman is however expected to be ready half way through pre-season
