Korlettey fires Central Region to bronze with fourth Elite U-19 MVP award

Central Region captain Desmond Korlettey claimed his fourth Most Valuable Player award of the 2026 MTN Elite U-19 Championship after leading his side to a 3-0 victory over Brong Ahafo Region and a bronze-medal finish.

Korlettey scored twice in the third-place play-off at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram on Thursday, 3 September 2026, producing another decisive display as Central Region secured a place on the podium.

The teenager’s latest individual award further underlines his influence throughout the tournament. He had already been named MVP after Central Region’s matches against Greater Accra Region, Northern Region and Upper East Region.

He was again judged to have been the outstanding player when Central Region faced Brong Ahafo, completing a run of four MVP awards in the competition.

Central Region took control of the contest and finished with a convincing victory, with Korlettey’s two goals helping his team conclude their campaign with a medal. His performances have made him one of the leading individual figures of the 2026 championship, while his role as captain has been central to Central Region’s progress.

The result means Central Region finish third, while Brong Ahafo Region leave the competition without a podium place.

Attention now turns to the final, where defending champions Eastern Region will face Ashanti Region on Friday, 4 September 2026. The showpiece match is scheduled to kick off at 10:00 at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.

Eastern Region will be seeking to retain the title, while Ashanti Region will attempt to end the championship as winners in what is expected to be a major conclusion to the 2026 MTN Elite U-19 Championship.

For Central Region, however, the tournament has ended with a bronze medal and another landmark achievement for their captain. Korlettey’s four MVP awards, combined with his two-goal performance in the play-off, provided the defining moments of their final match and ensured the side finished its campaign strongly.
