Uganda U17 coach Laryea Kingston praised the competitive standard of the CECAFA tournament after guiding the Young Cranes to qualification for the 2026 U17 Africa Cup of Nations.
He highlighted the quality and progress of teams in the region and emphasized the importance of the tournament in developing young talent.
The Young Cranes booked their place in Morocco with a 3-0 semi-final victory over Ethiopia, a result that confirmed their spot in next year’s U17 AFCON.
Kingston’s side had already impressed with a 4-0 win over Burundi and a 9-0 demolition of Sudan, showing attacking prowess and defensive solidity.
“First of all, I think this is a very competitive tournament. I have said before that I respect everything within this competition,"
"Some teams are stronger than others, and I would mention two that have impressed me the most, which are Ethiopia and Tanzania.
“For me, it is fair to say that all three countries deserve to represent CECAFA because they are doing the right things in their development.”
Despite a 2-1 defeat to Tanzania in the final group match, Uganda’s identity remained intact.
Under Kingston, the team scored 17 goals in four games while conceding only two, reflecting both attacking efficiency and defensive discipline.
