The Ghana Football Association will meet interested clubs on Monday, 24 November, as it begins the implementation of the newly introduced GFA Registered Football Academy Licensing Regulations 2025.
The meeting will outline the requirements and formally open the application process for clubs seeking certification to operate recognised football academies.
The new regulations, which are now in force, provide a clear framework for the licensing, regulation and management of football academies across the country. Clubs currently using the term “Academy” in their names have until the end of the season to meet the set standards. Those unable to comply will be required to remove the term from their names and operate solely as football clubs.
Any club wishing to run a certified academy must undergo a thorough inspection and satisfy all regulatory conditions before approval is granted. The framework aims to create a structured, professional and safe environment for players aged 6 to 18, while eliminating unapproved and substandard establishments.
A full list of licensed academies will be published on the GFA website. Each certified academy will also receive an annual licence, renewed only after a review confirms ongoing compliance. All licensed academies must appoint a Safeguarding Officer and take part in district-level leagues to ensure proper player development.
