Mohammed Kudus 55 million switch to Tottenham Hotspur could have taken a very different turn, according to fresh reports suggesting that Chelsea were seriously considering a move for the Ghana international before pulling out due to specific demands made by the player.
As reported by The Chelsea Chronicle, the West London club explored both player-swap and cash options with West Ham United but eventually chose not to pursue the deal further. The main sticking point, it is claimed, was Kudus insistence on being played in a central role something Chelsea were not prepared to offer.
Journalist Simon Phillips revealed that while Kudus was eager to operate through the middle, Chelsea saw him more as a wide option, particularly on the right flank. With the Blues already building their team around Cole Palmer in the No.10 role, Kudus' demand to play centrally reportedly led the club to step back from the deal.
Tottenham, who eventually secured the Ghanaian on a six-year deal, were willing to meet both the financial terms and the player's positional preferences, giving them a clear path to sign him.
Kudus, 24, enjoyed a strong spell with West Ham, scoring 13 goals and providing 9 assists in 65 Premier League appearances. However, his next challenge at Spurs could involve proving his worth in a preferred central role, a decision that may shape his long-term impact at the North London club.
