Veteran coach JE Sarpong has cast doubt over Kwesi Appiah's team building method following the Black Stars 1-0 defeat to Kenya in the AFCON 2019 qualifier on Saturday.
The West African powerhouse were pipped 1-0 by the Harambee Stars of Kenya on matchday two of the 2019 AFCON qualifier at the MISC Kasarani Stadium.
According to the JE Sarpong, coach Appiah needs to instill some consistency in his player selection following their below-par performance against the Eastern African minnows.
“The team did well in the last friendlies and don’t forget the manager has said that he is building a team for the future. That is great but this is a qualification and I think there should be some consistency in the team” Sarpong said in an interview with Metro FM.
“But when we keep seeing new players in and out of the team it does not help” he said.
Sarpong credited for the early nurturing of Asamoah Ghana also has a piece of advice for Kwesi Appiah on the Ayew brothers and Asamoah Gyan.
“He (Kwesi Appiah) is the coach and should make it honestly clear to all Ghanaians why he is not calling them. This will help kill all the rumours in town but at the moment this isn’t done.” Sarpong said.
“For instance when the France coach Deschamps did his call ups. There was a press conference organized where he spoke publicly and defended his decision to call or not to call certain players and everyone was quiet after this. ” he continued.
“Hasn’t he won the World Cup now?” JE Sarpong quizzed.
“So this is what Kwesi Appiah has to do in my opinion. There should be an honest and clear public explanation from him as the coach as we move forward” he added.
