Ghana assistant coach Ibrahim Tanko says striker Kwasi Okyere Wriedt is still in their plans despite overlooking the Bayern Munich player for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Kenya.
But the Black Stars No.2 wants the 24-year-old to move from the German third-tier with the Bayern Munich second team to a higher league.
Wriedt made his Ghana debut against Japan in the off season when he came on in 83rd minute and also played the last 21 minutes in the 2-2 draw with Iceland.
''I have personally advised him about his situation,'' Ghana assistant coach Ibrahim Tanko told Goal.
''He’s a very good player that we would ordinarily want to have in the team. He has to try to move from the second team of Bayern Munich. Even if he’s playing in the German second division, it will be better than playing in the Bayern second team.
''He’s not out but this time, we decided to go in for Raphael Dwamena and debutant William Owusu whom we have been monitoring for long and want to give a chance to prove his worth because he plays in a position in which we think we are still lacking – the striking position.
''Last time, we went with him [Wriedt] to Japan and Iceland and we saw what he can do. We think this new guy also has the potential, so let’s see what he can also do.
''He [Wriedt] is still definitely in our plans and we are still monitoring him.''
Wriedt has scored five goals in eight league matches for Bayern Munich II in the German Regionalliga.
