Ghana forward Richmond Boakye Yiadom has joined the bandwagon of African players who made a U-turn to Europe after stints in the Chinese Super League.
The Black Stars forward returned to Serbian giants Red Star Belgrade after a difficult spell in China, where he scored only three goals from 15 games.
“My sincerest gratitude goes to Jiangsu Suning FC for giving me opportunity to be part of the club’s glowing history,” tweeted Boakye.
The former Juventus striker made a big money move to China in February but after six months in Asia, he rejoins the Serbian Champions who have also qualified to the group stages of the Champions League.
Red Star Belgrade were paired in group C with PSG, Napoli and Liverpool.
Meanwhile, Boakye-Yiadom in not the only player making a return to Europe with several other Africans making a return to the elites leagues.
Senegal forward Papiss Cisse made a move from China back to European football.
The 33-year-old striker leaves Chinese Super League team Shandong Luneng and will join Turkish outfit Alanyaspor on a two-year contract.
“Very pleased and grateful to be starting the next chapter of my career with Alanyaspor,” Cisse said on Twitter.
Fellow Senegalese footballer Diafra Sakho has also made a move to Turkish pastures, joining Bursapor on a full-season loan from French side Rennes.
Algeria’s Yassine Benzia (23) joins Turkish giants Fenerbahce on a season-long loan from French outfit Lille.
Tunisia’s Seifeddine Khaoui has signed for Ligue 1 club Caen from French powerhouse Marseille.
Yet another Senegalese player is on the move, as Mamadou Fall has completed a loan deal with Belgian side KAS Eupen. Gambia’s Sulayman Marreh haas also signed for Eupen.
Fellow Gambian Bubacarr Sanneh has made the move to Belgian’s Anderlecht.
Portuguese side Porto have signed Nigeria’s midfielder Mikel Agu.
Cameroon’s Aurélien Chedjou leaves Turkish club Istanbul Basaksehir for rivals Bursaspor.
Scottish Premier League side Dundee United have snapped up Algerian Rachid Bouhenna on a two-year contract.
