Greek giants Panathinaikos have settled the final installments owed Ghana international Michael Essien, GHANASoccernet can exclusively report.
The Greek club completed the final payment of amount owed the former Chelsea midfielder on Wednesday after two years of leaving the club.
At an arbitration tribunal on Wednesday afternoon, Panathinaikos paid the last installment for the month of July. Essien had reported the club to the Court of Arbitration for Sports after failing to honour their part of the contract when he joined in 2015.
Panathinaikos were ordered by the court to settle the Ghanaian in several installments with the final part slated for court on August 1st.
The Greek club would have suffered points deductions and other severe punitive actions, which prompted their efforts of speeding up the settlements process.
Michael Essien left the club in 2016, moving to Indonesian side Persib Bandung, where he spent a season. The ex-Real Madrid, AC Milan and Olympique Lyonnais player is currently unattached.
However, he announced his International football retirement last week.
