One of Ghana's leading parliamentarians has made a shocking blackmail against investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, claiming he takes money from his victims of his investigation in Dubai to buy goods for his wife to sell in Ghana.
Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, says Anas, who is on the verge of releasing as Ghana football investigation, would then evade taxes when importing computer products for his wife to sell in Ghana with proceeds from the blackmail deal without the necessary custom duties.
Agyapong has descended heavily on Anas since the latter claimed he would bring the football industry in Ghana down with his latest investigative piece.
His latest expose targets basically the Ghana FA president but Agyapong says the investigative journalist is more corrupt than those he is seeking to expose
“From what I’ve seen and what I know, I’m going to show the pictures," Kenedy Agyapong said on Adom TV.
"I’ll prove to the whole Ghana that the boy is so corrupt and wicked, evil from the things he has done, bringing institutions that have been built over the years, down for him to be rich.
"Anas is a thief because if he can set people up in Dubai, take their money and buy tablets, ship them to Ghana and refuse to pay taxes on them, for the wife to sell, you think we are stupid in this country?” he quizzed.
On 6 June 2018, Anas will premier his latest video dubbed ‘Number 12’, which he claims captures corruption at the Ghana Football Association.
But the MP is aghast by the methods used by the journalist and has called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to reinstate all the judges who were fired or interdicted because of Anas.
Some of the judges are being prosecuted for corruption after being caught on camera byAnas allegedly taking bribes to warp justice but the MP said they were all set up by the journalist.
Thirty-four judges were exposed in the bribery scandal in 2016.
They included 22 magistrates and 12 High Court judges.
About 20 of them have been sacked in connection with the exposé.
Three of the judges, namely, Justice Paul Uter Dery, Justice Mustapha Habib Logoh, and Justice Gilbert Ayisi Addo, all of the High Court, have dragged the Republic of Ghana and the Chief Justice to the Court of Justice of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) seeking for the enforcement of their human rights which they said have been violated and continue to be violated by the Republic of Ghana.
Speaking about Anas’ modus operandi on Badwam on Accra-based Adom TV on Tuesday, 29 May 2018, Mr Agyapong described Anas as a corrupt journalist who sets up people with the aim to destroy their reputation.
In his opinion, the judges incriminated in the expose’ should be reinstated because they were set up by Anas.
“I call on President Akufo-Addo to reinstate all the judges because the guy [Anas] enticed them," Agyapong said.
"He used two boys, Ahmed and Rahman, to set the judges up. If you set people up, it is not investigative journalism."
