Ghana’s failure to qualify for the World Cup marks an end of an era where the Black Stars were dominant

For the first time in the last three editions, Ghana will not be part of the World Cup after Egypt secured the sole ticket with a dramatic 2-1 over Congo in Cairo.

The victory means that the last group game against Ghana in Accra will be a mere academic exercise as it will have no barring on who finishes first.

The Black Stars have been at the World Cup since 2006 and achieved the best performance in 2010 where they were just a goal away from the last four of the competition.

A last-gasp penalty miss from Gyan and a poor shot out from the entire team mean Uruguay eventually knocked them out but they had done enough to win over the millions on the African continent.

Top players like Asamoah Gyan, Harrison Afful and Jonathan Mensah who all have been part of the team during the glorious moments have become bit-part players in the team.

With new coach Kwesi Appiah looking to build a new team around the younger generation, its likely that their impact on the team will be minimal.
