Ghana’s inability to qualify for the World Cup means skipper Asamoah Gyan will not be able to add to his World Cup tally of goals at the global stage.
The 31-year-old has 6 goals in his last three World Cup appearances, smashing the record previously held by Cameroon legend Roger Milla.
Gyan would have been hoping for another chance to add to his tally but Ghana’s tepid qualification series means the forward and his team mates will only be watching the competition on Television.
Ghana shot themselves in the foot by dropping 4 points at home against Uganda and Congo combined which eventually proved costly with Egypt taking advantage of their slips to strengthen their grip on Group E.
They eventually wrapped up their qualification to Russia with 2 sensational goals from Liverpool’s Mohammed Salah, meaning they would be at the World Cup for the first time in 27-years.
Asamoah Gyan who previous played for Al Ain and Shanghai SIPG is also Ghana's highest goals scorer with 51 goals in a little over 100 games.
