Ghanaian defender Samuel Mensah has apologised for his middle finger celebration insisting that it was mistake which came because he was overtaken by the emotions.
Mensah scored one of the goals on Thursday night as Ostersunds FK trounced Norrkoping 4-1 to clinch the Svenska Cupen, the Swedish Cup.
Mensah’s club raced to a 2-0 lead after just 18 minutes, before their opponents pulled a goal back early in the second half.
It was the Ghanaian who put his side into the lead but they added another to make it 2-0 in the well attended match.
Mensah showed the way by nodding in 1-0 after just ten minutes and his celebration with the middle finger has attracted some attention but denies to trying to insult the opponent.
"It was a mistake, haha. I tried to celebrate the goal," Mensah says.
"When you score so you sometimes get the feeling where you do not know what to do. You just crank. It was a mistake for me."
Incidentally, Ostersunds also beat the same team 1-0 in the league just four days earlier.
By virtue of this cup triumph, Ostersunds will feature in next season’s UEFA Europa League.
