Inbound AshantiGold FC coach Charles Kwablan Akunnor has conceded that the task to save the club from the relegation doldrums looks bleak but will give it a try.
The Miners are one of the sides struggling to get any points on board in the points table. They have hit rock bottom, having taken just 8 points from 11 games the ongoing campaign.
They are fresh from a loss to Hearts of Oak at home and have won just 1 point in their last 4 games and are in grave danger of losing their position in the top flight and will need to find some consistency quickly in order to have a shot at safety.
And Akunnor, 43, who featured for the Miners during his formative years has been contacted by the club’s management to over the reins following the departure of Bashir Hayford as the head coach.
Speaking to Happy FM’s Anopa Bosuo Sports, Akunnor says, “It doesn’t look too good but it is something that we can turn it around and I cannot do it alone without the playing body, management and in fact Dreams FC management have also taught about it and we believe that with hard work we can do it.”
“So, we decided that okay let’s try and work hard and see if we can achieve it, which we all believe and very positive that it will be done. I know the CEO (Kudjoe Fianoo) very well, he’s like a father figure during the days when I was with the national U-20 team.”
“With the likes of Sammy Adjei, Augustine Arhinful and Stephen Baidoo and all the others who are behind the scene we’ll work things out but Augustine will be more proactive with the team, and so I believe if we work together we can turn the tide around like I said.”
