Accra, Dec 18, GNA - The Volta River Authority (VRA)on Wednesday held its annual thanksgiving and festival of Nine Lessons and Carols Service ahead of Christmas.
The event was graced by board and management members of VRA and the staff.
The Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols is a service of Christian worship celebrating the birth of Jesus.
It signified the promise of the birth of Jesus Christ, told in nine short Bible readings interspersed with the singing of Christmas carols, hymns and choral music.
The staff took the lessons in English, French, Spanish, Ga, Fante, and Ewe.
Delivering the sermon at the event, Reverend Dr Joyce Aryee, a Board member of VRA thanked God for the lives of staff and the company.
She said the plans of the company was successful because of the grace of God and prayed for continuous knowledge and blessings on the Authority.
Rev Aryee, who is also the Executive Director of Salt and Light Ministry urged the staff to trust and stand firm in their faith and not be swayed by pleasures of life.
Rev Aryee charged the staff to be grateful of God's love because of their lives and give thanks to God.
She asked the staff to exhibit true sense of patriotism, love and live in unity and harmony to achieve the company's vision.
"You need to strive to be dedicated to the call to serve humanity and exhibit traits of humility and love in all your endeavours",she added.
She advised the staff to eschew acts that would mar the relationship with their colleagues and work as a team for the success of the company.
Mr Emmanuel Antwi-Darkwa, the Chief Executive Officer, VRA said the Authority since its establishment in 1961 discharged its mandate as the market leader in power generation.
However, the Authority was plagued with challenges resulting in weak financial position, low asset utilisation and high operating cost.
As a result, the Authority in 2018 instituted a broad strategy to restructure the company into a resilient, sustainable and growing entity that provided public service with a private sector mindset as well transform into a multi business holding company in the market.
Mr Antwi-Darkwa urged the staff to do well to put up with better attitudes in 2020 to facilitate organisational, personal and national development.
He wished the staff a merry Christmas and a prosperous new year.
