Accra, Dec. 12, GNA – Ms Pathula Esi Kwaw, the Executive Director of the ‘Beautiful Life Foundation’, a not-for-profit organisation that supports parents of Persons With Disability (PWDs), has stated that the Foundation, would support such parents to get back on their toes.
She said the Foundation, among other initiatives, would empower parents of children with special needs through entrepreneurship programmes to enable them to become financially independent.
Ms Kwaw, told the Ghana News Agency in an interview that, most parents of such children struggled to give them better life and care, as most of them were not working because of their children.
"Most of these parents, usually single parents end-up having health problems like depression and stress. We believe parents must not die trying to care for such children, this is where Beautiful Life Foundation comes in, we are here to give beautiful life to parents,” she added.
She said although the Foundation was launched this month, it put measures in place to support such parents to reduce their plight and enhance their livelihood.
The Foundation would organise respite care provision programmes for parents and other caregivers on child care services to provide a short term relief, improve family stability and reduce the risk of leaving their children in the care of others to be abused.
Ms Pathula urged the public to stop stigmatising parents with special needs children and offer them the needed support.
"It is not the fault of anyone to have a child with a deformity, it could happen to anyone", she said.
Mr Prosper Ntoso, the President of the ‘Prosper Ntoso Music Ministry’, which is a partner to the Foundation, said his Ministry had over the years engaged in humanitarian projects to support the less privileged in society.
"We want to positively affect lives not only through music, but by helping to change the lives of many vulnerable people in society, this is one of the core mandates of this ministry.”
The Ministry, would implement a project next year to create awareness about cerebral palsy and offer support to such children to live fulfilled lives, he said.
The Ministry supported a special school in Battor, Volta Region last year, he noted, and disclosed that it was working to fully adopt the school as part of its project.
