Accra, Dec. 7, GNA - Dr Samuel Awinkene Atintono, the Principal of Accra College of Education (AcCE), has urged the newly admitted students of the College to learn hard and strive for academic excellence.
He charged them to be committed to their courses and conduct themselves according to the rules and regulations governing the College.
"The College required the support of both the students and staff to be successful as its strides to become the centre of excellence in teacher education in Ghana and beyond", he said.
Dr Atintono gave the advice at the matriculation ceremony of the second batch of the four-year Bachelor of Education programme in Accra.
In all, 354 students were admitted out of the 3,152 applicants due to limited space.
All the six colleges of education in the country are affiliated to the University of Ghana, legon.
The affiliation agreement was signed in October, 2019, for the University to take oversight academic mentorship of the colleges and ensure strict adherence to quality standards in the preparation of the teacher trainees, based on the National Teacher Education Curriculum Framework.
Dr Atintono encouraged the matriculants to eschew all acts of indiscipline and take advantage of the supportive academic and non-academic staff in the pursuit of their studies.
He admonished them to use the internet to access electronic materials to support their learning, saying; "use the College’s facilities purposely for studies and not for chatting on social media".
He said they should exhibit high moral standards, be worthy ambassadors and direct all their energies into their academic and professional work.
"You have lots of opportunities to make new friends, shake off regrets and missed chances, build new professional networks, build your personal career philosophy about teaching and above all see in the horizon the type of teacher and citizen you will want to be after your four years journey," he stated.
He urged the matriculants to lift high the banner of the College and imbibed the "Gye Nyame" symbol in all they do.
Dr Atintono expressed appreciation to government for its continuous support to the colleges to fully achieve their tertiary statuses.
Professor Jonathan Fletcher, the Dean of School of Education, University of Ghana, entreated the students to strive take their studies seriously and strive to get to the top of the educational ladder.
The students took the Oath of Matriculation, which admitted them as fully-fledged students of the College.
