Adoagyiri (E/R), Dec 04, GNA - Over 100 farmers in the Kwahu West Municipality have been registered under the government's ''Rearing for Food and Jobs' initiative.
Disclosing this at the Assembly’s Town Hall Meeting held at Adoagyiri, Mr Yaw Owusu Addo, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) said the Assembly received a total of 1,000 improved breed of cockerels to be distributed to farmers in the municipality.
He said beneficiary farmers, would then be supported by the department in the form of skill development and trainings to enable them adopt modern techniques in increasing their livestock at the end of the programme.
He said improved feeds and veterinary services would also be provided to beneficiary farmers by the government through the Agricultural Department at a subsidy so they could take proper care of the animals.
He urged the farmers especially the youth to embrace the programme to create employment for themselves and others.
Mr. Owusu Addo said the “Planting for Food and Jobs' (PFJ) in the Municipality also witnessed massive patronage as a total of 425 farmers registered under the Programme since its inception.
He said a total of 549 NPK and 374 UREA coupons were distributed to farmers for purchase under the fertilizer subsidy Programme.
He said subsidized prices of inputs under the PFJ initiative was sold by 17 registered Agro Input dealers in the Municipality who entered into contractual Agreement with the government.
Mr. Owusu Addo mentioned that the assembly raised 67,000 cocoa and 20,000 oil palm seedlings that were distributed to farmers for free under the government's “Planting for Export and Rural Development' (PERD).
He said the assembly had plans of raising about 40,000 oil palm seedlings in the second phase of the Programme for farmers.
