Nkawie, (Ash), Nov. 21, GNA – A 23-year-old Guinean national who unlawfully entered a forest reserve and engaged in illegal mining activities (galamsey), has been remanded into police custody by the Nkawie Circuit Court.
Kamara Tijani is said to have entered a forest reserve at Amangoase, near Nyinahin in the Atwima-Mponua District, where he illegally mined for gold, without lawful authority.
He was arrested by the Rapid Response Team of the Nyinahin Forest Services Division (FSD) of the Forestry Commission (FC).
His plea was not taken and would reappear before the Court presided over by Mr Michael Johnson Abbey, on December 14, this year.
Prosecuting, Detective Inspector Anthony Acheampong told the Court that, the suspect came into the country from Guinea in August this year, and settled with one Shangu Kamara at Amangoase.
He said on November 18, this year, at about 0800 hours Mrs. Rose Adwoa Gyawu Amankwaa, the Range Manager of the Amangoase forest reserve, together with the Rapid Response Team, went on their usual patrols in the forest reserve.
Inspector Acheampong said the team met Tijani in the reserve holding a gold detector machine prospecting for gold.
He was arrested and brought to the Nkawie Police station and during interrogation he admitted the offence.
