Accra, Nov. 13, GNA - Mr Ken Ofori Atta, Minister of Finance, Wednesday announced that the construction of the National Cathedral in Accra, is expected to begin in March 2020.
The facility is expected to promote national conversation and serve as a common place of worship to unify the Christian Community.
Presenting the 2020 Budget Statement and Economic Policy to Parliament, on the authority of the President, the Finance Minister said the processes to select a contractor were expected to be concluded by the end of the year.
The preparation works for construction of the Cathedral has begun, while the Board of Trustees and Secretariat has also been established.
The inter-denominational house of worship and prayer will also serve as a facility for formal state events of a religious nature, such as national thanksgiving services, presidential inaugurations and state funerals.
The Government announced the initiative as part of the 60th Anniversary of the nation, in March 2017.
It is being sited near the Parliament House.
